What happened to manners?
It seems to me that very few people have them any more. Is it me or does it sometimes feel like our society is spiraling down the toilet? Am I expecting too much? Let's look at an example -
If you're at the grocery store and you and your cart are blocking the isle and you clearly step aside when someone needs to get through should they -
A) Thank you
B) Acknowledge you
C) Ignore you
Here's another example -
If there is a group of women that know each other and have known each other for a long time and a new woman joins the group should the presiding women -
A) Ignore the new woman
B) Make the new woman feel welcome
C) Pretend to make nice then make snarky remarks behind the woman's back
In the past 10 years I have realized that we all have different definitions for different manners. We were raised with these manners being repeated to us over and over. I call them "the tapes in our head." It just baffles me that the above examples are not the same tapes for every single person on the planet because the correct choice is clearly obvious.
Right?
